Just a few years ago, it seemed like everybody wanted in on the free ad-supported television game. Google TV's FAST offering, which later became known as Freeplay, was adding channels left and right. Plex was in on it, and longtime stalwarts in the space, like Pluto TV, Tubi, and Xumo, kept gaining popularity.
